Verrucae PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Verrucae are viral warts caused by the Human Papilloma Virus .

They usually appear on the soles of the feet forming single lesions or clusters of warts.

Each lesion will appear raised and contain small black spots, which are blood capillaries and will bleed if abraded.

They are infectious and patients should avoid walking barefoot in public areas such as changing room etc.

We usually use Cryo-therapy ( freezing) to treat verrucae.

This type of treatment depends on the position, size and number of verrucae and the type of patient i.e. not suitable for very young children.

The podiatrist will assess and advise on the appropriate treatment.
